Report on Vacation Liberty Camp 2014
The Northwest Conservative Coalition is pleased to report that the Liberty Camp held in July at the 577 Foundation was very successful. The theme was “Presidents of Liberty.” Highlighted were Presidents who showed exceptional leadership in difficult times.
The following volunteers were presenters: Sue Hrosko and George Sommerfield, George Washington; Mr. Roger Jenot as Abraham Lincoln; Joyce Hammer, Rutherford B Hayes; Linda Bowyer, Woodrow Wilson/Calvin Coolidge; Ron Johns, Franklin D Roosevelt; Sue Larimer, Dwight Eisenhower; Nancy Rust, John F. Kennedy; Tiffany Densic, Ronald Reagan; Cheryl Garlow, Barack Obama (as history hasn’t had time to decide the effects of his leadership, the children voted in a mock court trial 94% that he is not a President of Liberty currently).
Tied into the lessons were games and activities of each President’s tenure. The kids wrapped their feet in rags and walked in ice water as George Washington’s soldiers would have. They shot off fabulous paper rockets led by the Sommerfields. They sang and danced to music of the times. Vivienne Sommerfield once again outdid herself in presenting fun and patriotic music each day. There are too many good things to list but we are proud of the camp and its students. The committee for this year was Joyce Hammer, Sue Hrosko, Vivienne Sommerfield, Linda Bowyer, Sue Larimer and Cheryl Garlow. Cookie donors were Linda Simmers, Ron and Nancy Snyder, Janet Miller, and Patsy Forrester. Watch for it next summer and encourage our young people to come. They aren’t getting enough history in the schools anymore with all the testing etc. This was a wonderful fun but educational week!
